Butterflies

Butterflies

Count the minutes that have passed

Since you told me you loved me

But I can’t manage

To catch a single one

Because they are ripped

Straight out of my throat,

And I can’t utter

A single word.

They dance

To the rhythm of my heartbeat,

Playing

The tune of pure happiness

That I couldn’t recognize at first.

Now

I can’t imagine

A single day without it,

And I can’t breathe

If the butterflies don’t choke me,

Leaving me breathless.

The irony of it all

Is that

If people hadn’t told me,

I wouldn’t have noticed

Their cheerful dance,

Because I’ve found out lately

That all I see

Is you.
